4 Types of Shelf Liner

4 Types of Shelf Liner

posted on January 5, 2020

It is an established fact that shelf liners are important for your kitchen. However, you will not be able to find the best shelf liner for your needs if you do not know what types of shelf liners are available in the market.

Different types of shelf liners are used differently. They all have their own purpose, depending on the material they are made of, their absorbability and their durability. Some of them are good for kitchen cabinets while others are used in DIY projects and for lining refrigerators or shelves.

Each type of shelf liner has some pros and cons. You can make a choice once you know about all the types and you know their features. Here are some types of shelf liners.

  • Foam Liners
  • Vinyl Liners
  • Plastic Liners
  • Fabric Liners
  • Conclusion

Foam Liners

These shelf liners are almost foam-like and they are quite different as compared to another shelf liner. They do not adhere to the cabinets which means they are non-adhesive. They stay in place due to their rugged texture. Normally, they are used for utensil drawers as they keep things in place.

You can buy foam liners as a whole sheet and then cut them according to the dimensions of your kitchen drawer. These shelf liners are best for wooden surfaces as they can damage stone surfaces. Also, you should not place them in the cabinets as they do not provide protection against spillage of water.

If you want to clean this shelf liner, you can just wipe it with a damp cloth. Do not put it in the washing machine or use any detergent on it as the liner will lose its shape.

Vinyl Liners

Vinyl liners are very to trim for the size of your shelves. You can buy vinyl liners in both kinds; adhesive and non-adhesive. Since they are very thin, it is not easy to clean them or reuse them. You would have to buy new ones from time to time.

Most people do not opt for vinyl liners as they do not come off easily from the drawers if they are adhesive. They leave a residue on the drawers or cabinets. It is very easy to find these liners in different prints, designs and styles.

Plastic Liners

Plastic liners are the best choice for wire shelves. Since they are thicker, they can be used as a base for kitchen items. The benefit of these liners is that they are water-proof. It is also very easy to clean them.

They can be used in the kitchen and garage. If you need a flat base for something, you can use plastic liners. Most of the time, these shelf liners are available in darker colors like black and charcoal.

The downside to plastic liners is that they cannot be cut into pieces. You would have to find the right size for your wire shelves or a size that is closest to them.

Fabric Liners

Fabric liners are the gentles liners for your kitchen cabinets. They are very soft so they will not end up scratching your cabinets. Also, they are non-adhesive and will not leave any stubborn residue when you remove the shelf liners.

Since these liners are made of fabric, they can be machine-washed easily. You can reuse them again and again by washing them. Moreover, they can be cut to the size of your cabinet.

The problem with these liners is that they do not absorb water fully. They somewhat absorb a pill but they are not able to provide full protection. You can find them in different colors.

You can also use fabric liners for your closet too. Spray the liners with a nice scent and keep them in your clothes drawers. They will keep the clothes smelling good.

Conclusion

These are all the varieties of shelf liners that you will find in the market. You can choose the type of shelf liner, depending on where you need to put it and whether you need it to be adhesive or not.

We hope you found this guide helpful and now, you will be able to purchase the shelf liner that your kitchen needs. Let us know in the comment section about the choice you made.
