Nowadays, most daily functioning cannot be fathomed without the use of an electronic device. These devices have become part of our routines so much that their importance is oftentimes taken for granted as well. They need the time and effort to be looked after too otherwise; their worth is spoilt.

There is a list of home appliances that are often, if not always, found in modern households. Amongst the most famous home appliance is the microwave oven.

Not to fear, for now, I will share many ways of how to clean a microwave – 4 best ways safely and not worry about giving your family food poisoning after leaving it as it is for months! You do not need fancy detergents and chemicals to clean it.

No doubt, the microwave is one of the most useful appliances out there and the prayers from the millions of women around the world never stop for its inventors. Just pop in a cold dish, set it at 2 minutes and voila! Last night’s leftovers good as new! Microwaves also come in various sizes and prices but the best ones are the small budget ones.

The microwave, especially the small microwaves, is used every single day which is why it is prone to get dirtier. If you notice, if you leave the microwave unclean for a long time, you can see how dirty the inner wall gets.

No one would want last week’s food particles mixing in with their favorite leftover pizza. Not to mention it is very unsanitary and dangerous for your health.

There are many items you can find in your kitchen that will do the trick just as effectively. These methods work exceptionally well with your small microwaves. They require lesser ingredients and are easier to clean up too!

Be safe!

The first and most important thing you should do before starting to clean your microwave is to unplug the cord from the switch. Remember, safety is key. Check for anything that could be hazardous for you like an exposed cable wire.

Start Wiping

Determine the dirtiest spots on and inside the microwave, then take a cloth, soak it a little and start wiping off the excess with it. You will notice a lot of dirt coming off and on to the piece of cloth. It is always helpful to use warm water so that the steam makes it easier to remove the dirt.

Clean Microwave with Dish Soap

Perhaps the easiest way to clean a microwave is with dishwashing soap. The steps are simple. All you will need is dishwashing soap, water and a sponge. Take one or two drops of dishwashing soap in a bowl and then dilute it with water.

Always remember to use a microwave-friendly bowl. Microwave this solution till the inside of the microwave becomes steamy. Now dampen a sponge with it and start wiping the walls of the microwave. All the food particles and debris will start to come off.

After you are done wiping the walls with a sponge, take paper towels and wipe again to dry and make sure nothing is left behind.

Clean Microwave with Baking Soda

It is not commonly known that ingredients used for baking can do an amazing job at cleaning. Baking soda is such an ingredient.

Many times while cleaning your microwave, you will notice old food particles hardened on the wall on the microwave or the turntable, and no matter how hard you try to wipe it off, they just will not budge.

This is where baking soda can become a hero. All you will need is baking soda and water. Make a paste with one part water and two parts baking soda.

Apply this paste on to the hardened food particles in the microwave and leave it for around 5 to 6 minutes. After this, take a sponge and remove it.

Vinegar is also a very handy kitchen ingredient when it comes to cleaning. For cleaning a microwave, in particular, take a glass or bowl, make sure it is microwave friendly, and fill it up with water.

Then take one tablespoon of white vinegar and mix it in the bowl or glass of water. Put it in the microwave and set the timer for around 4 to 5 minutes and let it warm the water.

The water and vinegar steam will work together in softening the excess food off the walls. After the timer finishes, take a paper towel and wipe everything off. You can take out the turntable and wash it with a sponge and soap, like any other dish.

Clean Microwave with Lemon

Lemons are not only the source for everyone’s favorite summer drink, lemonade, but also work as great cleaning agents for dishes and appliances. To clean your microwave with lemons, all you will need is one whole lemon and water.

In a microwave-friendly plate, take one whole lemon and cut it into two halves. Then take one tablespoon of water and pour it into the plate.

Put this in and microwave it for around one minute, or until the inside of the microwave gets steamy. After that, take out the plate and wipe the inside of the microwave with paper towels. Now it is clean and smells like lemons!

Health and sanitary precautions should never be taken for granted, especially when it comes to things we ingest. Leftover debris and food on the microwave walls can account for so many health-related problems that most of us do not even realize.

We tend to let our procrastination and laziness get the best of us which leads us to delay a task that would hardly take around 15 to 20 minutes.

There are so many simple, easy, and quick methods to clean a microwave that we should make it a habitual thing. All it requires is a few minutes in maybe a week or two.

These few minutes mean a lot if we speak in terms of the safety of ourselves and our families. As people like to say, precaution is always better than the cure!
